11/27 Downlink

It’s been 15 days since I came up with the idea for this game. Currently, I’d say it’s about 55% done, putting me on pace to finish the game by 12/7. According to my time log, I have spent 38.75 hours on the game. I broke up the development process into five sections: brainstorming, writing, art, music, and implementing.

Brainstorming is essentially done. The only part of the game I still need to think about is the very end. You’re going to rescue your friend, but I’m still working out the hows and whys about the whole thing. This phase is about 90% done.

The writing phase is progressing fairly smoothly. I still enjoy doing this part the least, but I’m having fun writing five different versions of “the stereotypical frat girl”, as well as two different versions of “I’m not like the other girls”. I’ve named all seven characters, determined the appearance of five of them, and written out full scripts for two. I’d put this at 40% done.

Art is also progressing really well. I’m trying to maintain a pace of one portrait or pixel art set per day, with other drawings mixed in every now and then. Also of note here is pixel art, it’s very tedious, but at least I know exactly what to do for it. Pixel art is 50% done, while FMV (full-screen drawings) is 40% done.

The music is going great! I have a plan for the full OST, and currently, five out of seven songs are completely done. Music is being done in Ableton instead of Musescore, which is leading to a huge increase in quality. This is 75% done. Finally, implementation is going much smoother than last week. I’ve decided to put conversations into the game as soon as possible, putting in placeholder portraits where needed to ensure the game is playable ASAP. This way, I’ll have more time to go back to fix things and add finished portraits when I get them done. Implementation/coding is about 30% done.
